Other Environmental Services
Water Permitting and Monitoring
Bison Engineering’s groundwater environmental services range from simple analytical solutions of groundwater problems to the application of numerical models. Our analysis methods are applied to many problems, including local environmental impact studies, risk analysis to the environment or public health, remedial investigations and feasibility studies at abandoned mine sites.
Bison Engineering prepares National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System
(NPDES) permit applications, stormwater discharge permit applications, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWP3) and Treatment System Operating Plans (TSOPs) for our clients. SWP3s are often required by regulatory agencies when NPDES or Stormwater Discharge Permits are issued. Any materials, activities or sources at a facility that, when in contact with stormwater, may cause pollution or become a pollutant must be reviewed for the application of best management practices (BMPs). TSOPs are documents that show how to properly operate and maintain a facility’s wastewater treatment system.
Bison designs, installs and operates groundwater and surface water monitoring networks at numerous sites for a number of different facilities across the Northwest.
Noise Monitoring/Impact Studies
Bison Engineering performs noise monitoring to establish background noise levels and to assess noise impacts from industrial development and activities. We have sophisticated monitoring equipment and the expertise to address noise impacts or issues for existing or new sources.
Site Characterization and Assessments (Phase 1, 2 and 3 reports)
Bison performs many industrial, commercial and real estate site characterization and assessments commonly referred to as Phase 1 site assessments, Phase 2 site assessments, or Phase 3 site assessments.
Soil Sampling
Bison Engineering provides soil sampling services which are typically done in conjunction with other activities, such as an assessment or remedial activity. Surface or below-grade soil samples may be needed depending on the site and the type of contamination.
Soil/Water Remediation Plan Development and Implementation
Bison Engineering has extensive remediation experience with organic compounds. Each instance of contaminated soils and/or groundwater requires its own plan for remediation. The volume of contamination is critical to plan development as are the types of contaminants.
Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plans (SPCC)
Bison Engineering has prepared numerous spill prevention control and countermeasure plans (SPCC). SPCC plans are required by federal regulations for facilities that meet certain criteria for storage of petroleum products. Plans must include type and amount of petroleum stored, spill prevention features of equipment, employee training, history of any spills or leaks, procedures to follow in case of a spill or leak, and agency notification procedures.
Solid Waste Control Plan
Solid waste studies and/or plans are prepared for the purpose of reducing solid waste materials for disposal. Bison has completed Solid Waste Plans to address requirements stemming from MPDES permits.
